Join us for a workshop that shares community perspectives on the barriers to establishing community-university partnerships for sustainable development in Leeds.

This workshop is the second in our series exploring community-university partnerships for sustainable development in Leeds. Hosted by the Sustainability Service’s officers for Positive Impact Partners and Living Labs, this workshop aims to share with academic colleagues the results of focus group discussions that were had with third sector sustainability practitioners in November 2023. Representatives from 12 third sector sustainability organisations shared with us the barriers they have encountered while involved in research partnerships at the university, and we want to share it with you.

We invite all staff and PGRs who research sustainability and are interested in community-engaged research to join us for this workshop!

Building on from the discussions had in our communities focused workshop, this workshop will provide an opportunity to:

  • Learn about third sector sustainability practitioners' thoughts, experiences, and desires for successful and impactful community-university research partnerships, across sectors such as food, energy, nature, water, and social justice.
  • Discuss the barriers experienced by communities and reflect on them within the context of your own research practice. Have you encountered and circumvented these barriers in your own work? If so, how?
  • Explore opportunities for examining sustainability challenges through community-university partnerships and colleagues approaches to doing so.
