Leeds is a brilliant, vibrant city that’s home to a multitude of diverse communities and is a great place to call home. But living independently also brings new challenges and questions! 

As part of our annual Welcome to Leeds campaign, our community ambassadors are knocking on doors in areas of Leeds that are popular with students to offer advice and support about living in Leeds.  

They’ll be delivering our Make this Place Your Home guide which provides lots of useful information about getting to know the local area, living sustainably, and things that you might now know about living independently whilst at university.  

What's in the guide?

The guide includes information on how to keep yourself and your possessions safe, local organisations to get involved with, useful contact numbers and how to deal with bills, waste, noise or anti-social behaviour issues.  

It also outlines the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that is in place across parts of inner north-west Leeds, which means that some behaviours in the area are classed as criminal offences and can have significant consequences.

What if I miss the visit?

Ambassadors will also be able to answer any questions you might have, whether you’re a student who’s just moved in or a local permanent resident in the area. If you miss their visit you’ll find a guide posted through your letterbox, or you can also pick one up at the student welcome hub in the Parkinson building. 

Living in halls this year?

Students in University of Leeds residences and partner accommodation can get advice and support through their site staff or Residence Life team, including a Sustainable Living guide which is available through your accommodation website. Look out later in the year for the Halls to Homes initiative which will help you get ready for moving into private accommodation.
