In 2018, Great Food at Leeds (GFAL) received the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s highest accolade, a three-star ‘Food Made Good’ sustainability rating. The team achieved an overall score of 70% over three main categories; Sourcing, Society and Environment. In March 2015, University of Leeds chefs were awarded the Gold Standard Catering Mark by the Soil Association for a menu that was put together for the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) conference.

The University of Leeds and Leeds University Union have together pledged to become single-use plastic-free by 2023. The pledge commits catering and office spaces to becoming single-use plastic-free by 2020, with longer-term support for lab space and other services to help them identify and develop available alternatives to critical disposable plastic equipment and apparatus by 2023. GFAL also work to ensure that we can offer a sustainable option in GFAL outlets for our customers who drink hot drinks. When you use your KeepCup at any GFAL outlets you will also receive 20p off your hot drink!

At the University of Leeds, we are passionate about Fairtrade and have been supporting and selling Fairtrade products since 2003.

The University also provides free drinking water provisions for all staff, students and visitors to the University at water fountains across campus.
