About me?

Dr Louise Ellis is the Director of Sustainability at the University of Leeds, part of the Senior Management Team and Chair of the Russel Group Sustainability NetworkShe leads the strategic direction of the University in relation to sustainability and our realisation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She galvanises the University community to collaborate in embedding sustainability into every aspect of our activity and ensuring that we take seriously our social, environmental, economic and cultural responsibilities.   

In addition, Louise plays a key role in driving our engagement activities and developing partnerships internationally, across the City and with other universities.   

Some of the key projects that she is directly involved with include writing the Sustainability and Community Strategy, drawing up the University’s Climate Plan, underpinned by our seven Climate Principles ;leading our approach as a civic university, embedding sustainability into our curriculum and research through the Leeds Sustainable Curriculum and Living Lab programmes; and leading our pledge to remove all single-use plastic from campus operations.  

Before taking up the role of Director of Sustainability, Louise was a lecturer within the School of Earth and Environment, focusing on organisational sustainability and leading the MSc Sustainability and Consultancy.  Louise also completed her PhD here at the University of Leeds, looking at the role of large corporations in UK sustainable development policy making.  

Prior to joining the University, Louise worked for Deloitte and Mott MacDonald, where she worked with diverse range of clients across the globe on projects ranging from developing corporate sustainability strategies and reportsdeveloping a World Bank funded project, to the sale of power stations and dairies.
