As part of the University’s Student Citizenship programme, the Sustainability Service, in conjunction with Residences, have launched the 2023 Halls to Homes initiative. This is aimed at first year students living in managed accommodation who are about to move out into privately rented accommodation in the community.  

What is Halls to Homes?

Moving into private accommodation is an exciting time for students, but also brings with it a lot more responsibility and a list of things to do that might not have been considered before. The Halls to Homes initiative aims to support students by guiding them through the different things that they will need to do and think about to make the transition from living in managed accommodation to their new homes as smooth and stress-free as possible. 

The online guidance combines helpful videos and useful information relating to moving into the local community. It covers practical matters such as paying bills, safety and security, as well as how to avoid issues around noise, anti-social behaviour (ASB) and waste. Advice about living sustainably and getting involved in the local community is also offered.

How to get involved:

Students who engage with the initiative and complete the quiz at the end will be entered into a prize draw to be in with a chance of winning gift cards. Winning students will be able to choose between Love2shop e-vouchers or Open gift cards, with 1 x £100 voucher, 2 x £50 vouchers and 8 x £25 vouchers up for grabs.
