As part of the University’s commitment to Sustainable Procurement, we are proud to be a founding member of Electronics Watch.

Electronics Watch is an independent monitoring organisation that helps organisations work together and collaborate with their supply chain partners to protect the rights of workers in production regions.

In recent decades the global electronics industry has become one of the largest in the global economy, generating more revenue than any other manufacturing sector. These global supply chains are at risk of poor health and safety standards, precarious working arrangements such as a lack of job security and irregular working hours, and even forced labour.

By working with Electronics Watch the University is committed to eradicating any risks to workers within these supply chains. The University use the monitoring services of Electronics Watch to achieve compliance with labour rights safety standards in the supply chains of the ICT hardware goods we purchase. As a founding member of the organisation the University has played an especially important role in developing and promoting the organisation, believing in the vision of Electronics Watch and helping to form a solid base for its development.

Our affiliation to Electronics Watch provides the essential knowledge, skills and tools to ensure responsible procurement throughout our processes. Furthermore, it requires our suppliers to comply to the same standards thereby improving workers rights and welfare throughout the whole industry. Through our thorough sustainable procurement processes and the independent monitoring of Electronics watch taking place we can rest assured that our electronics are purchased responsibly and generating positive social value throughout the supply chain.
