Turning our campus into a testbed for change

The University of Leeds campus is a unique environment for experimentation, collaboration and innovation. Through our Living Lab approach, we connect research, teaching, operations and community partnerships to address real-world sustainability challenges.

Students and staff work alongside operational teams to test ideas, generate evidence and develop solutions that can improve our campus and create wider societal impact. Living Labs provide valuable opportunities for research, learning and hands-on experience while accelerating sustainability action.  

By using our campus as a living laboratory, we can explore new technologies, trial innovative approaches and demonstrate what is possible when knowledge and practice come together.

Creating the campus of the future through innovation and collaboration

Campus Reimagined is a long-term initiative to create a more welcoming, inclusive and sustainable University of Leeds campus that delivers an outstanding experience for students, staff and the wider community. Using a people-centred approach, it brings together evidence, innovation and community engagement to shape a future campus that enhances wellbeing, strengthens connections with the city, and delivers environmental and socially responsibility goals. Through projects ranging from biodiversity and green spaces to new ways of using and sharing campus facilities, Campus Reimagined creates opportunities to test ideas, trial solutions and embed sustainability into the future development of the University estate, whilst having a positive impact on campus now. 

This makes Campus Reimagined a key part of the University's Living Lab and campus innovation approach, providing a real-world environment where staff, students and partners can collaborate to explore and scale solutions for a more sustainable future.
