The Bike Hub

The Bike Hub is a civic asset at the heart of campus - an anchor for active travel within the City and Region which sees hundreds of people through its doors each year.
It is a partnership with Leeds Beckett University, and the Bike Hub team are key members of peer support and advocacy groups who foster networks, connections, and pathways between local organisations all working towards shared goals.
At our Bike Hub you can:
- hire a bike
- develop your bike maintenance skills through our Cycle Repair Pathway
- borrow tools to fix your own bike
- get bike and cycling advice
- volunteer with us
The Bike Hub team are here to help you cycle safely and enjoy it!
The Bike Hub is located on the lower level between the EC Stoner and Roger Stevens buildings. You can locate the Bike Hub using What3Words at the location bronze.deed.snake.

How do I hire a bike?
To hire a bike, simply come along to the Bike Hub during opening hours. No appointment or pre-booking is required and you can usually take a bike away on the day. At busy times you may need to wait.
Our bike hire service is in high demand at the start of the academic year. If there are no bikes available to hire we will keep your details on a waiting list. You can email us in advance to check if there are bikes available.
3-month bike hire
We offer students and members of staff the option to hire a Ridgeback Speed bike. These are 'hybrid' bikes which means they are perfectly equipped for city cycling and are able to be ridden both on the road and on tracks. They are not e-bikes, but have 21 gears and come with rear and front lights, a D-lock, and a luggage rack. Hires last for 3 months from the date of collection, and the total cost for the hire is £22 plus £100 deposit. If you keep rolling your 3-month contract, that deposit could last you for however long you keep that bike – which could be years!
Staff 'Try Cycling' bike hire
One month bike loan designed to help you decide if cycling is for you. Staff members can hire an electric bike for £20 for one month, or a folding or hybrid bike for £10 for one month. Loans are non-renewable and there may be a waiting list for electric and folding bikes. A £100 deposit is required.
If you find that you enjoy cycling, you’re welcome to move onto a different hire contract or explore the Cycle to Work scheme.
All hirers are required to read and agree to the terms and conditions of the relevant bike hire agreement.
In line with University procedures, we are not able to accept cash, but we can take all debit and credit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. We are not able to hire bikes to organisations or individuals not affiliated with the University.
To return your hired bike, bring it along to the Bike Hub during opening hours before the end of your hire period.
For staff enquiries about access to secure cycle storage (locked cages) please email [email protected] or visit the bike hub during opening hours.
Volunteering at the Bike Hub
Our staff and student volunteers are pivotal to the success and longevity of the bike hub.
Volunteering can include supporting bike maintenance, speaking to visitors, offering cycle advice and getting involved in a variety of sustainable travel projects.
If you are interested in getting involved, please email [email protected] - we’d love to hear from you!
