Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global framework to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. There are 17 goals, each addressing global challenges such as poverty, climate change, peace and justice, which are all interconnected.
The SDGs inform the University's strategic direction, help shape how we measure and communicate our impact, and drive our work on sustainability. They are embedded into our teaching through our Discovery Modules and our Sustainable Curriculum as well as our research and operations. The University has signed the SDG Accord, a commitment to embed the SDGs into everything we do. Our Framework for Environmental and Social Responsibility aligns with the SDGs, helping connect local action with global priorities.
Across the University, students and staff contribute to all 17 SDGs through teaching, research, operations, civic engagement and partnerships. The University has identified a number of priority SDGs where it believes it can make the greatest contribution, including:
- Good Health and Wellbeing
- Quality Education
- Reduced Inequalities
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Climate Action
- Partnerships for the Goals
