Commute sustainably for a week - 15 points
Your choice of transportation greatly influences your carbon footprint. 91% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2021 came from domestic transport, most notably from cars and taxis. To reduce your emissions, try commuting sustainably for a week!
If you currently drive to campus, catch the train instead. If you currently take a short bus on to campus, try walking a few times per week. For this challenge, commuting sustainably includes: walking/wheeling, cycling or taking public transport.
To complete this challenge: Upload a photo of you travelling to campus sustainably.
Try a new plant-based meal - 5 points
According to the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), meat and dairy industry account for ~14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce your contribution, why not try out a new plant-based meal in place of meat/animal products during Climate Week?
Create a vegetarian or vegan meal, and share a picture and the recipe once you’ve completed it! If you’re looking for some inspiration, check out these two webpages:

Overconsumption is an ever-present sustainability problem, especially with clothing, over 1.92 million tonnes of textile waste being produced per year.
If you find yourself with something that you no longer use, whether that be a household item or piece of clothing, don’t bin it! Instead, donate it to a charity shop, sell it, or swap it with a friend for something that you do want!
To complete this challenge: Upload a photo of you: swapping an item with someone else OR taking something into a charity shop (or similar) OR listing an item on an online selling platform (e.g. Vinted, eBay or similar).
Get a drink in a reusable cup or bottle - 5 points
Single-use plastic bottles and cups are an environmental nightmare, contributing to the ~11 million tonnes of plastic pollution that enter our oceans each year.
Luckily, there are water fountains across the university, and you can find your nearest one using our sustainable travel map! Additionally, at both Great Food at Leeds and LUU outlets, you can get money off a hot drink if you bring a reusable cup with you.
To complete this challenge: Upload a photo of you having filled up a reusable bottle at a water fountain OR having got a drink in a reusable cup from a campus café.
