Discover Campus: Exciting New 'Adventure Lab' Launched for Campus Exploration
The University of Leeds campus is now home to an exciting new ‘Adventure Lab’ initiative, which brings unique outdoor scavenger hunts, experiences, and games to life!
Thanks to the efforts of staff member Erica Di Martino from the Lifelong Learning Centre, locations have now been added to campus for people to explore campus biodiversity using the Adventure Lab app. This differs from traditional geocaching by removing the need for physical containers and instead encourages users to find physical clues that can only be encountered in person. This dynamic approach enhances the sense of adventure and encourages participants to engage more deeply with their surroundings, as well as getting some exercise and exploring new areas!
Giving the Adventure Lab a five-star rating, one user said:
From a wellness point of view, this has to be one of the best Adventure Labs I have walked. Considering it’s in the middle of a major city makes it even more amazing.
The campus Adventure Lab consists of five distinct locations, each carefully selected to showcase the biodiversity of the university campus. As you embark on this interactive journey, you’ll be prompted by the app to find specific spots and uncover hidden clues at each location. These clues are designed to be visible only when you are physically present, ensuring that participants are fully immersed in the experience.
The app is available to all students, staff and visitors eager to explore the campus in a novel way. To get started, simply download the Adventure Lab app.
Initial feedback from users includes:
A really enjoyable wander around on a Sunday morning. Can’t believe how many rabbits we saw, an easy 5-star.
Michael Howroyd, Biodiversity Lead at the University adds:
Led by Erica, this is a fabulous low-cost addition to our campus that allows people to learn more about our biodiversity (and other sustainability works) as well as exploring our wonderful architecture and campus art and improving their health and wellbeing at the same time!
So, lace up your walking shoes, grab your smartphone, and get ready to uncover the hidden gems of our university with the Adventure Lab. It’s not just a game; it’s a journey of discovery right in your own backyard. Happy adventuring!
