Reduce your environmental impact

Achieving our sustainability commitments will require our whole University community to work together and trial new ways of tackling big challenges. Every action we can take - both big and small - can make a difference.

Find out more about how you can reduce your own environmental impact at the University of Leeds.

Sustainable travel

One of the big ways to reduce your impact on the environment is by travelling sustainably. We have a range of information and support to help you plan your travel to and from the University, as well as further afield.

The Bike Hub

The University Bike Hub helps to support cycling at the University. You can hire a bike, trial e-bikes, learn how to maintain and fix your own bike and get access to the expertise, tools and equipment you need to keep your bike at its best.

Business travel

Business travel is a significant contributor to our climate impact as a University and we encourage staff and students to choose the most sustainable means of getting where they need to be.

Reuse@Leeds

We are committed to reducing our waste through a circular economy approach. The reuse@leeds website allows you to donate unused items.

Recycling

If you do have something to recycle, we have a clear guide for recycling across campus to make it as easy as possible for people.

Sustainable Labs

Looking for ways to reduce your environmental impact when working in labs? Our Sustainable Labs programme can help.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

We use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework to guide our activity. Our work on reducing your impact is linked to the following SDGs:

  • Goal 2: No poverty
  • Goal 4: Zero hunger
  • Goal 10: Good health and well-being
