Making moves in sustainable fashion with Scope
In an exciting collaboration with Scope, the leading disability equality charity, we're making moves in sustainable fashion.
Over the past two months, more than 30 dedicated volunteers, including students, staff, and local community members, have come together to contribute to this transformative project.
Together with Scope's retail team, we've transformed donated clothes into a unique sustainable fashion collection. You can shop this exclusive collection at Scope's new Leeds store opening on Kirkgate in Leeds city centre in May 2024.
Our fashion and textiles workshops at Makerspace were the at the core of this project. The first workshop in February showed volunteers how to turn old jeans into chic tote bags and how to revamp tired jumpers with fresh designs. It’s safe to say that we’ve been blown away by the creativity of our volunteers!
Our second Makerspace workshop on March 11th, saw the involvement of community group Older Wiser Local Seniors (OWLS). These experienced elders shared their invaluable sewing expertise and helped our students gain confidence on the sewing machines. Then, on March 20th, Scope hit our campus with a pop-up shop in Leeds University Union, showcasing our sustainable creations and sparking meaningful conversations about disability issues.
We can’t wait to keep supporting sustainable fashion and to celebrate the launch of Scope’s new city centre store in May.
If you're interested in getting involved then keep an eye on our events page for future activities, and join us in shaping a more inclusive, eco-conscious future!
