We’d like to say a huge well done to our Blueprint teams, both new and established, who have been working extra hard to deliver on sustainability this academic year.

As part of our week of digital Sustainability Awards celebrations, we are celebrating the excellent work of some of our 13 active and 21 developing Blueprint teams over the 2020/21 academic year.

For those who aren’t familiar, the Blueprint programme allows Schools and Services to work closely with the Sustainability Service to develop a bespoke strategic five-year action plan. This plan works towards a long-term sustainability vision; delivering on the University Sustainability Strategy and Climate Principles, whilst also supporting the School or Service to drive change in their chosen areas of impact. Through Blueprint, we can recognise, measure and celebrate the work that teams have been doing as part of their action plan – but also the work that they continue to do every day which continues to build a collaborative, engaged, innovative and knowledgeable University community.

Blueprint awards go to…

After completing their annual audits, the following teams have received their 2020/21 Blueprint award. The awards range across five levels from Working towards, Explorer, Change Maker, Leader, to Visionary:

  • Catering Services, awarded Change Maker level in November 2020. Highlights include working with suppliers to reduce single-use plastics, and supporting student researchers to investigate successful behaviour change initiatives in catering outlets.
  • Cleaning Services, awarded Change Maker level in May 2021. Highlights include supporting campus through the covid-19 pandemic, and centralising deliveries to reduce the associated miles and packaging of supplies.
  • Educational Engagement, awarded Explorer level in March 2021. Highlights include digital upskilling between staff members via the creation of an internal knowledge and resource sharing platform.
  • Residential Services, awarded Leader level in April 2021. Highlights include the embedding of sustainability into the Service culture and continued production of an annual Sustainability Report, and a strong focus on student wellbeing during the pandemic.
