About me
John’s role in the Sustainability Service is providing specialist advice and support to colleagues across the University to determine what environmental compliance looks like and how we achieve it. This includes working collaboratively across the University to identify key risk areas and leading the development and implementation of plans and procedures to address these.
Our Environmental Management System is one of the key tools in managing our environmental impacts and John has a key role in ensuring this system meets the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 standard.
John is a key contact for external enforcement agencies and is responsible for responding to any complaints or incidents reported by staff and students or wider stakeholders. He also works with other colleagues to help ensure and monitor compliance of suppliers and contractors against the University’s various sustainability requirements.
After gaining a Chemical Engineering degree from Loughborough University and a short detour into minerals processing, John has worked in a variety of roles in the food industry, including eight years managing environmental compliance and improvement at food manufacturing sites for ABP Food Group, as well as working on a variety of sustainability projects.
