Moving Out? Sort it out!

We’re bringing back our Moving Out campaign in partnership with Unipol and other higher Education institutions across the city to help support students and ease the stress of moving out!
You know how it goes… you move into your uni accommodation with a backpack or maybe a car load of essentials, and then you buy what you need as you go.
Before you know it, it’s the end of the academic year, it’s time to move house or back to your parents and suddenly that backpack isn’t cutting it any more. Your room is full of stuff, and you might be moving into a shared house where you won’t be needing 5 air fryers! What do you do?
Here are three tips on how to get rid of your stuff responsibility:
1. Barter it
Your trash may be another persons treasure!
Keeping items in use is better for the environment as it reduces the amount of new stuff having to be manufactured and shipped around the world, and reduces the waste that might end up in landfill or being incinerated. And if you can make a few pennies on the way, then it’s a win win!
You could organise a swap with friends, post your items for swap or sale on a Facebook group or list on a dedicated selling site or app.
2. Bank it
If you can't sell or swap your items you can always donate them in one of the many donation banks we've installed around Leeds. This year, we’ve added more Revive donation banks into the local area, to make sure there is one near you. You can check the Moving Out map to find your nearest bin.
3. Bin it
If it’s got to go, it’s got to go! But lets do it right. Make sure you sort your waste properly into the correct bins, or visit your local refuse centre if you cannot dispose on in your bin. Leeds has recently introduced glass recycling via green bins, making it even easier to recycle waste.
Whatever you do, don't leave rubbish out side of the bin or on the street, this could get you dumped with a £200 fine!
Moving out with Unipol
This summer we’ve teamed up with Unipol again to help make moving out less stressful. You can get more detailed advice on moving out and what to do with your unwanted stuff on the Unipol webpage.
